Asia D. Smith Joins Protection From Abuse

Domestic Violence Expert Asia Smith Joins Agency’s Council of Experts

PHILADELPHIA – November 8, 2017 – PROTECTION FROM ABUSE Security Services announced today that domestic violence expert Asia D. Smith will be joining the agency’s Council of Experts. With over 30,000 hours of training and research, Ms. Smith is the Domestic Violence Specialist for the City of Newark, NJ and the Public Safety Department. She is a Governor appointee to the New Jersey Domestic Violence Fatality and Near Fatality Review Board, and the Governor’s Advisory Council Against Sexual Violence.

“The recruitment of Asia to our Council of Experts illustrates our commitment to bringing a multi-disciplinary team of experts to bear upon the considerable challenge of keeping at-risk victims and families safe,” said Steven Dana, CEO of PROTECTION FROM ABUSE. “Asia’s expertise, experience, and passion will influence the continued development of the agency’s culturally sensitive, impactful, and innovative programs,” Mr. Dana continued.

Ms. Smith is known for her innovative strategies for fighting abuse through trauma-informed, multi-disciplinary advocacy. Among her many commitments and accomplishments, Asia is also an Advisory Board Member of the Trauma & Resiliency Institute at Rutgers University – Newark, and a New Jersey Hero award recipient bequeathed by First Lady Mary Pat Christie.
